The exhibition began with the receipt of a broken .doc. Masses of nonlexical ASCII characters had ordered themselves into overlapping blocks and clouds, the intended message derendered by an unknown system that had imposed its own grammar. A spectral system, embedded in the original, liberated by – what? An encoding error? Translation? System glitch? The data was there in the image, but where was the information?
